Lumpy ..

Breastfeeding is really a pain. I have been trying to stretch my expressing to 6 hrs. It was ok till 4 days ago. I kept having big painful lumps. It was really painful trying to get rid of the lumps. I also ended up with very sore nipples. In the end, I had to express my milk every 3 to 4 hrs. Plus I'm using mytollyjoy manual pump as it's less painful for my nipples but it's uber tiring.. Now my nipples are better, so i alternate between the manual and my dual electric. Also when the let down comes, it's uber painful now also.. SobS...Too much milk also a big problem.. SighS. As Ting says, we are like being punish for breastfeeding our Lil Ones... Why Why Why ?

Lil Nigel Loves to Swim

Taken on 20.6.09. Nigel hates water since birth. He hates wiping his face, hates bathing, hates changing his clothes. But after swiming so often, he loves to bathe. Even cries when we take him out of his bath tub. But he still hates wiping his face.

Nigel Loves to Swim definitely. He gets cranky if he doesn't have his daily dip. He always cry when we put on his neck float, now knows that if we put on the neck float for him, it's swimming time, so he stop crying...

Swimming Lessons at Home

Shawn and Moi Decided to get a Home Swimming Tub for Lil Nigel so he can swim swim more often. Plus with the H1N1 virus around, it's not advisable to bring Nigel out too often. We got it online for $79, swimming tub is 70 by 90, comes with a neck float and standing float. We paid another $10 for another neck float so my frens' BBs can come over and swim together.

I tried the Swimming tub on Mon. Nigel love it ! Maybe cos it's bigger than the one at Hua Xia. He has more space to swim around in... Each time I use, will cost me 50cents of water. Pretty ok. Not as expensive as i thought. Had Another round of Swimming today. He almost fell asleep swimming ! So Cutie ! He always sleep well after swimming. Didn't swim yesterday and was so cranky the whole day !!

Vaccination.. A Danger??

I was reading thru one of the blog entry by Kenny on Vaccinations. There was a Lil Boy, Ian who suffered a severe allergic reaction to Hep B vaccination and pass away. He's only 47 days old. Too young to have suffered so much pain.

Most parents are not informed of the danger and side effects of vaccinations. We just vaccinate our babies because we are told to by our PDs. But is it all necessary and are they too young? During my time, we only took the Hep B when we are in Mid Primary. We have to be tested if we are immune first before taking it. I was tested to be naturally immune so I do not have to take. It did dawn on me that Nigel might be immune too. But somehow It didn't occur to be to object to the vaccination and to do it once he's older and can be tested if he's immune. I just sort of go with the flow cos everyone is doing the same thing. I have to be more alert now and voice my opinion and not just go with the flow. Especially since Shawn and I have drug allergy too. Nigel might have inherit the allergy too. I really have to be more careful and alert from now on. Even though my PD is one of the best, but mistakes do happen. Nigel is my Lil Boy. I have to protect him.

Doctor Teoh ....

Lil Nigel went for his PD visit on 10/06/09. We decided to go to Shawn's ex PD, Dr Teoh and Mount Elizabeth. He's very experience, 73 year old liaoz. The reason we didn't go there at first is the cost. He's really expensive and over there, we cannot use the baby bonus to pay. But Nigel's health is more important than $$$$.

The appointment is at 245pm. Shawn, Moi and his Mum and of cos Baby Nigel was there at 2.30pm. I expected to be greeted with a crowd of People at his clinic as most PD clinics but we were the only customers !! Shawn explained that he is selective about his patients and will only see those recommended by people he knows or his old patients , as he's semi-retired. He seeing us cos he was Shawn's family PD for a really long time and he's pretty close to Shawn's mum.

The nurse took Nigel's measurement using really antique equipments! It's been there ever since. Shawn use those before when he was a baby. Nigel is now 4.07kg and 54cm ! He was only 2.410kg when he left NUH.

Dr Teoh gave Nigel a very careful examination. His ears are fine, very alert. Right eye and nostril is slightly infected mainly due to the blocked tear ducts which he thinks will open up by itself. He gave me some eye CREAM for Nigel. His legs is ok. Will be curving out till about 3 years old. It will slowly correct itself. And Swimming is a good way to correct the problem. He gave Nigel rota virus vaccination which is taken orally and Hep B booster shot. Have to come again around 1st week of July for his 5 in 1 Jab. Dr Teoh advice not to take 6 in 1 as baby have to follow injection timing while 5 in 1 follow baby timing. If miss the booster, 6 in 1 have to re-take while 5 in 1 dun have to. Also, the red mark at the back of Nigel's head is called Angel's Kiss, will disappear after a few months. No need to worry.

Dr Teoh was very patient and took the time to explain a lot of things and gave me tips which a normal PD would not as they have too many patients to attend to. In short:
1. I have to take Rice Milk or Soya milk and also continue with my GNC prenatal pack.
2. Don't take strawberries, garlic and onions, still have quite a few but those I dun take so forgot wat are those liaoz.... All these will cause Nigel is have wind.
3. Don't pat Nigel too fast cos will make him panic. Always Stay calm and baby will be calm. he show me a new way to burp Nigel which not only is effective but will calm Nigel down when he's crying. Hold him out and slowly move him up and down.
4. When Nigel cry, if not time for feeding, first check diapers, then blurp him, still doesn't work, rub the tummy cream that he gave me, still doesn't work then give Nigel the medicine for wind.
5. Slowly stretch the feeding hours to 6 hrs. Baby grow faster when they are sleeping.
6. Always keep fever medicine for Nigel at home in case he got fever. Going to ER in the middle of the night is damn expensive !
7. For breast feeding position, hold his butt in and let him feed the nipple, no need to bring nipple to him. Dun suckle on one side more than 15 mins.
8. Dun need to put any cream on the heat rashes.

Total Bill: $240, He didn't charge consultation fees !!! Wow ! For 2 vaccinations, fever medicine, eye cream, windy medicine, tummy cream..

Lil Nigel is One month old. Time flies. Nigel is a lot cubbier than he was when he was born. But he's a lot more nottier. He wants to be carried around. He love to latch on me also, he will scream and cry "Nah" till I latch him on. Not because he's hungry, he just love it. After suckling for only 5 mins, he will fall asleep. But If I place him on his cot, he will start all over again.. Sighz.

Nigel's Full Month Celebration is at Pasir Ris Costa Sands Chalet, No. M08. It's really a coincidence. His date of birth is 8th May. Nigel is a real lucky baby. It was raining just before so the weather was nice and cooling.

Shawn and I ordered 30 boxes of cakes from Les Precious at $8.80 each, FOC 4 boxes. Comes with a cute baby card. The Picture on the card was taken when my dad was playing with him. Almost all my relatives turn up, more than 90 guests !! They are really supportive and came as early as 4pm even thought we told them it starts at 5pm. I ordered catering for 80pax plus BBQ and almost all the food was wiped out ! It was really crowded, the whole place was full of my relatives. Lil Nigel receive lots of presents and Hongbao. It was a fun but really exhasting day....

Swiming Lessons !

Lil Nigel is exactly one month old today. Decide to remember this Special Day by giving him his first Swiming lesson at HuaXin (Punggol Plaza). He was crying at first when the instructor was putting on his float. Shawn and I was worried at first cos he hates bathing and will scream till his face is black everytime he bathe. But once the instructor put him in the tub, he was smiling. He was loving it !! He was pretty clever, he place his little arm at the hock on the bottom of the float so he can rest his arm. I took his arm out and he was very piss. He place his arm back in again.. He swam for 20 mins and got cranky cos he was tired from all the kicking he was doing. So we took him out. Wanted to get a nice massage for him but he was too tired and was screaming.. SighZ. Notti Little Boy.

Nigel is 4 weeks today. He's getting Cubbier and heavier. A milk monster also. He's drinking 90ml per feed at every 2 to 3 hrs. He's getting really cranky and notti now. He loves to be carried and tok to. Doesn't wan to sleep !! Luckily my family been coming over everyday to entertain him !! He's going for his First HairCut tomolo.

BreastFeeding.. A Pain !! More Storage Solutions ..

BreastFeeding is really a Pain. Been at it for 4 weeks already. Time cosuming as I have to Pump every 3 to 6 hrs depending, each time still 1 hr as the milk flow from my left breast is really slow. Yesterday was the most painful as I have blocked ducts for both side. Luckily managed to unblock the ducts. Thinking of hiring Mdm Rokiah for breast massage like what Ting did. 1 hour per pump is really slow plus my nipple is really sore. But What to do, for Nigel's health. Another downside, have to restrict on the food I'm taking, sOooOO Sadz.

I pop by Motherhood fair at expo yesterday with my Sis, Pam and Ting. Gotten lots of stuff. Best thing I have gotten is Milk Tray. Just freeze the breast milk like ice cubes and store it in ziplock bags. Save $$ and space. 2 trays for $19.90. But before that, I have gotten 3 boxes of Blue Egg milk bags at $8 for 25 pcs per box. Both items are BPA free !!
